Design of a Website-Based Attendance System Using Global Positioning System (GPS) and the Haversine Algorithm for User Location Validation

The attendance process is one of the important activities in managing employee
attendance. However, conventional attendance systems and website-based attendance systems that have not been equipped with location validation still have weaknesses, such as the potential for fraud in attendance recording and difficulties in ensuring the presence of users at a predetermined location. Therefore, an attendance system is needed that is able to accurately verify the user's location when conducting the attendance process. This study aims to design and build a website-based attendance system that utilizes Global Positioning System (GPS)
technology with the Haversine Algorithm to validate the user's location. Where user location data is obtained through GPS on the user's device, then the Haversine Algorithm is used to calculate the distance between the user's coordinates and the predetermined attendance location point. The results of the study show that the system built is able to record attendance online and validate the user's location based on GPS coordinates obtained in real-time. The implementation of the Haversine Algorithm successfully calculates the distance between the user's location and the attendance location so that the system can determine whether the user is within the radius allowed to make an attendance. Thus, the developed system can improve the accuracy of attendance data, minimize the potential for fraud, and support a more effective and efficient attendance process.
