Peer Review Process
The Jurnal Manajemen Retail Indonesia (JMARI) implements a peer review process to ensure that all published articles meet appropriate standards of scientific quality, originality, relevance, and academic integrity. The review process is conducted objectively, independently, and transparently while maintaining the confidentiality of authors and reviewers in accordance with the journal's policies. JMARI adopts a double-blind peer review system, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another throughout the review process. Each submitted manuscript undergoes the following stages:
1. Submission and Initial Administrative Screening
The editor examines whether the manuscript falls within JMARI's focus and scope, complies with the journal's author guidelines, includes the required documentation, and meets publication ethics requirements. The initial screening also includes an assessment of manuscript originality and potential plagiarism. Manuscripts that fail to meet the basic requirements may be returned to the authors or rejected before entering the peer review stage.
2. Initial Editorial Assessment
The editor evaluates the relevance of the topic, the novelty of the scholarly contribution, the clarity of the research objectives, the appropriateness of the methodology, and the manuscript's potential contribution to retail management and related fields. Manuscripts that meet the initial criteria are forwarded to reviewers with relevant subject-matter expertise.
3. Review by Independent Peer Reviewers
Each manuscript that passes the initial editorial assessment is reviewed by at least two independent peer reviewers with relevant expertise. The review covers originality, scientific significance, literature review, methodological rigor, analysis and interpretation of findings, quality of discussion, clarity of presentation, and the appropriateness of references. Reviewers provide recommendations to the editor based on their scholarly evaluation.
4. Editorial Decision
Based on the reviewers' reports and editorial considerations, the editor makes one of the following decisions:
- Accept: The manuscript is accepted for publication without substantive revision.
- Minor Revision: The manuscript requires limited revisions.
- Major Revision: The manuscript requires substantial revisions and may undergo further review.
- Reject: The manuscript is not accepted for publication because it does not meet the journal's standards or requirements.
The final decision rests with the editor, taking into account the manuscript's scholarly quality, the reviewers' recommendations, and JMARI's editorial policies.
5. Revision and Re-review
Authors are required to respond systematically to all reviewer comments and recommendations and to provide a point-by-point response document. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the reviewers for further evaluation when necessary. Submission of a revised manuscript does not guarantee acceptance for publication.
6. Final Decision and Publication
Manuscripts that satisfy all scholarly, technical, and publication ethics requirements receive final editorial approval for publication. Accepted articles subsequently undergo language editing, typesetting, and final proofreading before publication.
7. Confidentiality, Independence, and Review Ethics
All parties involved in the review process must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and any information obtained during the evaluation. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, professional, and evidence-based assessments and to disclose any potential conflicts of interest to the editor. Reviewers must withdraw from the process if a conflict of interest could compromise the independence or impartiality of their assessment. JMARI does not tolerate plagiarism, data manipulation, data fabrication, or other forms of publication ethics misconduct. Allegations of misconduct will be handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and applicable principles of academic integrity.
8. Estimated Review Duration
The duration of the peer review process depends on reviewer availability, manuscript complexity, and the number and extent of revisions required. Information regarding estimated review timelines and editorial decisions may be provided on the journal website in accordance with JMARI's operational policies.
