Plagiarism Policy
The Jurnal Manajemen Retail Indonesia (JMARI) is committed to maintaining academic integrity, scholarly originality, and publication ethics throughout the publication process. Therefore, all manuscripts submitted to JMARI must constitute original scholarly work and must not contain plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or other forms of academic misconduct.
1. Plagiarism Screening
All submitted manuscripts will undergo a text similarity check using plagiarism detection software or other appropriate text similarity assessment tools. This screening forms part of the initial editorial assessment and is conducted before a manuscript proceeds to the peer-review stage.
2. Text Similarity Threshold
JMARI establishes a maximum text similarity score of 25% as an initial guideline for manuscript screening. This percentage is not the sole criterion for determining plagiarism. Editors will evaluate similarity reports comprehensively, taking into account the context, identified sources, direct quotations, reference lists, common terminology, and the reuse of the authors' own previously published work (self-plagiarism).
Manuscripts exceeding the established threshold may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected, depending on the seriousness of the findings and the editor's assessment. Manuscripts with similarity scores below the threshold may still be rejected if substantive plagiarism is identified.
3. Forms of Misconduct
JMARI does not tolerate the following forms of misconduct:
- Direct plagiarism: Using another person's words, sentences, ideas, data, or work without proper attribution and acknowledgment.
- Paraphrasing plagiarism: Rewording or restructuring material from another source without providing appropriate citation.
- Mosaic plagiarism: Combining material from multiple sources without adequate attribution.
- Self-plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of previously published work without appropriate disclosure, attribution, or justification.
- Duplicate publication: Submitting or publishing substantially the same manuscript in more than one journal without complying with applicable publication ethics requirements.
- Misuse of data and sources: Using another party's data, images, tables, or scholarly materials without appropriate acknowledgment and, where required, permission.
4. Authors' Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submissions constitute original work, that all sources are properly cited, and that the reference list complies with the citation style prescribed by JMARI. Authors must also disclose the reuse of previously published material and ensure that the manuscript is not under consideration for publication by another journal, except where expressly permitted under the journal's policies.
5. Actions in Cases of Misconduct
If plagiarism is suspected before or during peer review, the editors reserve the right to return the manuscript for revision, request clarification, or reject the submission, depending on the severity of the violation. If misconduct is identified after publication, JMARI may issue a correction, publish a clarification statement, or retract the article, as appropriate to the nature of the violation and in accordance with applicable publication ethics procedures.
In handling allegations of misconduct, JMARI will consider the available evidence, provide authors with an opportunity to respond, and maintain appropriate confidentiality throughout the investigation process.
6. Compliance with Publication Ethics
JMARI follows established principles of scholarly publication ethics, including the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), as a basis for addressing suspected plagiarism and breaches of academic integrity. By submitting a manuscript to JMARI, authors are deemed to have read, understood, and agreed to comply with this policy.
