Retraction and Correction

1. Purpose

Jurnal Manajemen Retail Indonesia (JMARI) is committed to maintaining the integrity, accuracy, transparency, and credibility of scholarly publications. This Retraction and Correction Policy establishes procedures for addressing errors or breaches of research and publication integrity in published articles in a fair, objective, transparent, and ethically responsible manner.

2. Article Corrections

JMARI may publish a correction to a published article when an error affects the accuracy, completeness, or interpretation of the article but does not invalidate the main findings or conclusions of the research.

Corrections may include, but are not limited to:

  • Errors in author names, affiliations, or bibliographic information.
  • Errors in tables, figures, numerical data, or factual information.
  • Technical or editorial errors that affect the interpretation of the article.
  • Other errors that can be corrected without undermining the overall validity of the research.

All correction requests will be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief or a designated editor. If approved, JMARI will publish a formal Correction Notice specifying the affected section, the correction made, and the reason for the change. The notice will be linked to the original article to ensure transparency and traceability of the scholarly record.

3. Article Retractions

JMARI may retract a published article when there is convincing evidence that the article is unreliable or has violated the principles of scholarly publication integrity.

Grounds for retraction may include:

  • Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of research data.
  • Plagiarism or the use of scholarly material without appropriate attribution.
  • Duplicate or redundant publication in violation of the journal's publication policies.
  • Manipulation of the peer-review process.
  • Serious research ethics violations, including breaches of ethical approval or participant consent requirements, where applicable.
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest that materially compromise the integrity of the publication.
  • Fundamental errors that render the research findings or conclusions unreliable.
  • Other circumstances that substantially undermine the integrity or reliability of the article.

Retraction will not be issued solely because of scientific disagreement, findings that do not support the original hypothesis, or results that contradict previous studies. Retraction decisions must be based on objective editorial assessment and sufficient evidence.

4. Handling Procedures

When a potential error or breach is reported or identified, JMARI will:

  1. Conduct a preliminary assessment of the complaint, evidence, or information received.
  2. Request clarification from the relevant author(s), where necessary.
  3. Examine the supporting evidence and, where appropriate, consult reviewers, editors, the authors' institutions, or independent experts.
  4. Determine the appropriate action, which may include a correction, retraction, or other editorial measure.
  5. Document the process and the basis for the decision to ensure accountability.

Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond. However, editorial decisions will not depend solely on the authors' agreement. Where serious concerns remain under investigation and the available evidence is insufficient for a final decision, JMARI may publish an Expression of Concern.

5. Publication of Notices and Article Accessibility

Every correction or retraction will be accompanied by an official notice explaining the reason and scope of the action. The notice must be publicly accessible and linked to the affected article. Retracted articles will not be removed from the journal archive unless required by law or justified by exceptional circumstances. Under normal circumstances, the article will remain accessible with a clear retraction label. Relevant bibliographic information and metadata will be retained to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

6. Editorial Responsibility

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for coordinating the investigation and making the final decision regarding article corrections or retractions in accordance with JMARI's editorial policies. All decisions must be based on evidence, fairness, appropriate confidentiality, and recognized publication ethics standards. JMARI seeks to apply this policy consistently and without discrimination based on authors, institutions, or affiliations. If an allegation involves an editor, the matter will be handled by an independent editor without a conflict of interest.

7. Publication Ethics References

This policy is based on the principles of scholarly publication integrity and relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), including its guidance on retractions, corrections, and expressions of concern. JMARI may revise this policy in response to developments in publication ethics standards and the journal's editorial requirements.
